im going to buy a 500d , im how long the maximum is the time of exposure ??

With remote shutter release(cheap RC-1), you can set exposure to BULB, which means that your exposure can be as long as few hours (until your battery dies). But digital cameras have so much noise in exposures above 10 or 15 minutes...

Without this remote shutter release you can get exposure of 30 seconds.

In exposures longer than 1/2 seconds you have to use tripod.

I own RC-1, sweet little thing, it costs 30$ or less.

Oups, I didn't finished. So just a little question about the BULB mode and the RC-1 shutter, I have to hold the button to keep long exposure? or just one pressure and I can go to sleep
